Simulation as a Teaching Tool


Tuition: $4800 | Duration: 4 Days
Dates: June 13th-16th, 2017

For simulation educators who seek to create high-quality healthcare simulation programs. This course immerses healthcare simulation instructors in a multi-method course wherein participants learn how to teach clinical, behavioral, and cognitive skills through simulation. It draws from the disciplines of aviation, healthcare, psychology, experiential learning, and organizational behavior. Participants explore simulator-based teaching methods applicable across the healthcare education spectrum, including undergraduate and graduate medical, nursing and allied health domains. The daily formats vary and include: simulation scenarios, lectures, small and large group discussions, and practical exercises with feedback. Ample opportunities are provided for networking and sharing experiences.

Training is held at the NYSIM facilities in New York City.

Enrollment and Cancellation Policy:
Tuition is due immediately after registration. When a class fills up, we start a waiting list. If you must cancel and another candidate can fill your seat, we will refund your tuition, less $250 for administration and processing. If we cannot fill your seat, you will forfeit half your tuition and we will refund the remaining half.

NYSIM Instructor Course

2017 Dates: Jul 11-13, Aug 14-16, Nov 14-16

The NYSIM Instructor Course is the ideal immersive experience for new and intermediate simulation instructors. Experience simulation from the inside and out. Gain new insights into the teaching and learning process, organize effective debriefings and create novel educational experiences. The course focuses on debriefing skills and simulation design including sessions on Objective Oriented Debriefing, Advanced Debriefing Topics, and Simulation Scenario Design. It is designed to teach participants how to create effective simulation programs, use effective debriefing techniques and avoid ineffective ones, and manage difficult debriefing situations. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
